In my opinion, both...and then some. He made plenty of headlines back when he incurred his exposed-brain injuries while mountain climbing in Montana, plus the controversy around alleged racial remarks concerning his two daughters patient care after they were involved in a very serious auto accident.

He joined the ranks of many musicians who received notoriety for their alcohol and drug abuse...something the song bares out that he's not quite ready to give up at that time. Odd, how fame can affect some people..that, and having to prove he was something other then "Hank Williams' son".
