Is it a matter of coincidence or is there something going on here? In VN, I thought the AK was much more reliant than the 16.

They don't. They use the Tavor Assault weapon , replacing various types of M-16, M-4 and Galil rifle.

Nope the M-16 is far better. I have tried both and I'll take the Colt M-16 any time. I am ex-military and have used both. The M-16 is a precision intrument. The AK-47 is massed produced in a russian factory some where and is not a qaulity weapon.

The M-16 is the superior weapon.
The AK-47 is liked because it is cheap.
It's is considered more reliant because if you have a never ending supply then they would seem more reliant.

Israel manufactures their own arms also and have a few really high quality models like the Galil ...and i agree with the other guy up there ... the M16 and its 223 round is infinitely more effective in skilled hands ... its more accurate, has longer range, has slightly greater penetration of armor and its a smaller round hence ammo is easier to carry, and its "killing capacity" is far greater - it really tears flesh up whereas an ak47 round generally just pushes through the flesh.
.. but really, they carry it because we are allies and we have deals with them .. also it has the benefit if we fight together we have the same weapons and ammo so it makes logistics easier.

Well for the same reason they fly F-15's ..... because the USA just gives Israel all the weapons it could ever want.......... and at taxpayer expense.

the USA gave whatever these jews want and russia do not give it to israel for free, so u can expect more US weapons on Israel
