Absolutely. In her eyes you're totally cramping her style. She's more interested in whats going on around her then cuddle sessions with mom. Just wait until she is a few months older though and you're blessed with Velcro baby and can't even use the bathroom without her standing in front of the closed door screaming because she can't see you...lol
Yes, at 11 months old babies are very independent and only want hugs when 'they' feel like it (sounds like a cat, doesn't it...lol)

My daughter's 50/50 (she's one). She'll come up to me sometimes and give me a hug... other times she'll push me away. Most of the time, I realize that it's because she sees something in her environment that she's excited about exploring. Otherwise, it's usually because she's so overstimulated by the preceding events that such close contact is more than she can handle...

I don't remember mine doing that at the age of 11 months. My teen doesn't even do that, and she's 16, although she's told me I do give her too many hugs. Better ask a doctor about this.

my son is 9 months old and has been doing that same thing since he was able to. it's hard, i know. everyone want their baby to be lovey and give them hugs and kisses. I guess some kids just aren't like that.

It could be. Does she do this every time or just when she is busy/upset/etc.? Some kids are less affectionate than others but I would certainly call my pediatrician if she does this every time you try to hug or kiss her.

At that age, they are starting to express themselves more. You are invading his/her personal space. Let them come to you for hugs and love. Show affection yes, but keep in mind, just because they are a child, doesn;t mean they don't want their space. Don't take offense, it is normal.

Please don't take it personally.
Little people like their 'space' too.
Try other types of caresses for awhile.
Rub her back gently in a circular motion while talking quietly to her.
Let her sit on your lap facing outward and gently wrap your arms around her tummy area without pinning her arms down.
Look into her eyes whenever you have occasion and gently pat or stroke her cheeks while talking quietly to her.
The idea is to make emotional contact....the method can be varied.
