Do you consider yourself (anyone in the LGBTQ community) a culture or group? I noticed that is what this category is listed under. Wouldn't you deem your sexuality as just part of society or lifestyle ? I hope no one is offended by this question. In all honesty I do have sincere curiosity and I'd like to hear your responses.

Thanks,

reading the responses I think I may cause some confusion when I mentioned ''lifestyle" "not like choosing to live this way". And I would like to apologize, but what I meant as in this being its own category and not being thrown under cultures and group. Shouldn't this category be seen and recognized ?

First off: Your question is not at all offensive. There is nothing wrong with having a healthy and honest curiosity. Second: I do not think that Yahoo is trying to appear insulting at all by placing this forum under Society and Cultures. While there are other categories this forum could also fit into, I think that this one is as fitting as any.

Sexuality and gender identity-based cultures concern the culture, knowledge, and references shared by members of sexual minorities and/or transgendered people by virtue of their membership in those minorities or their state of being transgendered.

Not all members of a particular sexual minority participate in, or are aware of, the subculture that may be associated with that minority. In addition to simply not knowing that the culture exists, non-participants may be geographically or socially isolated, they may feel stigmatized by the subculture, they may simply dislike it (feeling it is outdated, corrupted, or does not align with their personal taste or style), or they may prefer to affiliate with some other culture or subculture.

I think there is a GLBTQ community so being part under the culture area is ok. It would be nice if this area was closer to relationships & family and not the religion area cause it has more to do with feelings and gay/lesbian/bisexual people can be any religion. Plus you get the Bible thumpers posting hate which is not nice or very Christian like. WWJD?

It’s a “lifestyle" myth:
It’s sometimes said that GLBT people live a gay “lifestyle.” The problem with that word is that it can trivialize GLBT people and the struggles they face. Being GLBT is no more a lifestyle than being straight — it’s a life, just like anyone else’s.

I'm not offended by your question...I am kind of offended by Yahoo's decision to put it into a category of culture or group. But I honestly think that they do it that way so that the religious questions keep popping up a t the same time...They tend to like to cause conflict in these areas.

Yeah I kind of dont like being put in this group either. When I first came to Yahoo questions, I was look for LGBT in Relationships and Lifestyle, didnt know we were a culture group, lol.

LGTB could be placed in a few categories. Here's fine except I think it's one subcategory too low. Being buried next to "Other" is a bit diminishing.

What I really wish is that religion was located anywhere else - top level category included. Way too many righteous gay bashers preach here, and I suspect a lot of it is because of the shared category.

It's all about being as PC as possible.

If you think about it, we are a group. We didnt exsist a few decades ago. Our lifestyles were kept secret. Now that we are somewhat accepted in society, there are straights and gays.
