This varies tremendously from charity to charity. You can use this site http://www.charitynavigator.org to look up a specific charity and find out how much of the money you donate actually goes to the cause vs. administrative expenses.

Charity organisations are big employers. As with all organisations maintainance is expensive. Of course these costs come first. What is left over goes to the people.

A lot is lost. Some are ligitimate expenses, some are lost due to incompetence, wrong planning and execution and a some more are stolen. The officials that run the charity (e.g. United Way) are paid fantastic and huge salaries.

I think not even a 50%...at most 25%....the 75% are used for transport, buying lunches and dinners for volunteers, buying gifts for sponsors,.........
So,people ...trust me if u wanna reach out to the poor and needy, its better to reach out for them urself...Never rely on charity organisations.

Well at least part of it to cover the administration cost and diplomatic. So, probably about half will reach to the people that need it.
