His Oscar was for that movie he did with Ethan Hawke where he was a bad cop - the name of which escapes me right now.

No, he didn't but he finally did get one for his performance in Training Day. I don't get why some guys have to be a bad guy before they get recognition as being a good actor.

No. He got Best Supporting Actor for "Glory" a number of years ago, and then he got one for '"Training Day" a couple of years ago.
