Israeli airstrike hits building housing civilians in Lebanon
At least 54 killed, including 37 children, Red Cross says
Lebanese PM says all talks on hold, calls for cease-fire
Condoleezza Rice's planned visit to Lebanon canceled
-------------------------------------------------
TYRE, Lebanon (CNN) -- Israel said it mistakenly destroyed a four-story building near a Hezbollah rocket-launching site in Qana, Lebanon, on Sunday where the Red Cross said 54 people died, including 37 children.
A Red Cross official said the airstrikes hit a residential building that housed refugees, which Israel said was near Hezbollah rocket launching sites.
"The building itself was not targeted," Israeli government spokeswoman Miri Eisen told CNN. "The building itself was next to the rocket-launcher sites and we are targeting all of those rocket-launcher sites. This was a mistake and we will have a full investigation."

Here is the deal....these civilians are collateral damage that is caused by war.....is it right???? NO, it is not right. The problem here is that Hamas is a weak government and they have allowed the militant-Islamic group Hezbollah has stationed their munitions in such places as school, Masque, rest homes, and other public places where civilians are located. They are like other terrorists groups and they hide in plain sight. Their interest is not the civilians; it is more of destruction of Israel.
The Israeli Army is targeting the rocket signatures and the unfortunate part is....that these launchers are located near these buildings that I listed above.....
The world community needs to come together and put pressure on both sides to cease hostilities. But as the Israelis have said, time and time again, you can not have a lasting peace until you disarm Hezbollah.
What bothers me about this whole thing is that this type of fighting has been going on for years and now suddenly the world has awaken to the problems in the Middle East. What is that all about? Have we (the world) been blind to these problems? My brother was in Lebanon 20 years ago...so this is nothing new.
After 9-11-01, we here in the United States have become more aware of terrorism...it is a shame that the falling of the World Trade Center buildings had to happen to make us aware. In the Middle East, this has been going on for generations; like wise in Northern Ireland, and throughout the Far East. The world is a very dangerous place.
But for all of you condemning the Israeli military....I say OPEN your eyes and see the truth....this can all end with the disarming of Hezbollah and the international community coming together to fight the terrorists.....I, personally, am getting tired of the United States having to come to the rescue; I am very proud of our young men and women that give their all for the others and that have put their lives on hold to do their duty. God Bless the US Military.

Hezbollah don't want them to leave. They were firing rockets a few yards from there knowing they would get fired back at. Israel's army doesn't fire anything near their citizens. Those people were warned better than I have ever heard of an army warning.
And your a girl kicker? What's up with that?

Hezbollah fires ALL their rockets at civilians. They make no attempt to hit military targets at all. That's definitely a case of the pot calling the Kettle black. Makes you look pretty stupid

It is called a war! Would you take refuge with children near a launch site that you know would be a target from the opposition? I think not.

killing the Innocent civilians is usual act for Israel...it is not the first time and it will not be the last one...i do not know how they attack terrorists and in the same time do more horrible and bloody things ...read this article and you will know the truth about Israel..
{ The latest human rights violations by Israel have surpassed many of
its previous violations in cruelty and in injustice. Israel bombed
and destroyed the electricity system for 1.2 million Gaza residents,
inflicting a collective punishment on the entire population. But
what is new in it?
They have deprived millions of Palestinians of their dignity, honor
and even their right to live as decent human beings. It is obvious
that Israel believes in a philosophy of "might makes right." It has
no morality and no religion and no decency in its dealings with
Palestinians. Israel's supporters in America tell others that their
state stands for justice because their religion dictates so. But
when it comes to giving Palestinians the simple right to live as
decent human beings, their state adopts measures that would be
considered cruel even by those who stand for the rights of dogs,
cats and rats in America and many European countries. An ardent
supporter of Israel recently devoted his talk show to the plight of
street dogs.
It is clear that when the supporters of Israel talk of justice, they
mean justice for its own citizens and not for those considered
outsiders.
They argue that Israel must be viewed as a privileged state because
it has a special status in the eyes of God.
They suggest that the quest of Israel for more and more land must be
seen as part of a divine plan that must be supported by all means.
For this reason some 40 percent of churches in the United States
devote their weekly services to seeking support for the state of
Israel as part of the fulfillment of divine prophecy.
To Israel and its majority of citizens, Palestinians deserve the
curse of God because they have been opposed to their state. The
Palestinians in the views of most Israeli intellectuals and law-
makers do not deserve a homeland, rather they deserve to be sent
away to different Arab states. Even though many claim to be the
champions of human rights and democracy, they have rarely raised
their voices about the human rights of Palestinians. On the
contrary, they have opposed the democratically elected government
of Israel, tooth and nail.
Israel is indulging in these antihuman acts because it knows that
the world lacks the political will to stand for justice. The
apartheid state knows that the world's supreme power is backing it
in every sense of the term. The Israeli elites know that many in the
Bush Administration admire Israel for creating conducive conditions
for the apocalypse.
Obviously, Israel has a license to kill whomsoever it wants to kill
and it has a right to destroy every thing Palestinian freely. The
killing and destruction are justified by religious arguments and
historical anecdotes.
This is arrogance in its worst form. How can we respond to this
inhumanity of the state of Israel? One of the ways is to document
their every act of injustice.
A day will certainly come when the world will read these stories and
hold Israelis responsible for their war crimes, as before them the
Nazis and others have been punished for the wrongdoing they
committed.
Today the truth is squelched by spin and lies, much of that fog
being spewed by mainstream and right-wing media outlets. The media
networks do not tell us the truth because their interests are in
concert with the interests of Israel.
But someday the truth will come out. That will be the day when the
coming generations Israel and her supporters come to question their
predecessors for not speaking up and for hiding the truth.
That will be the day when they will denounce their past and hang
their heads in shame. Let us hope that when that day comes, the
Palestinians do not turn it into a day of revenge.
