Sometimes it is embarassing to be an American.?

We had great founders and great principles of a counstution and bill of rights, but things are going down hill. Our people are accepting things like sheep. They are ignorant and intollerant and getting more so. When I traveled over seas the 1st time when I was able I was so supprised on how people hated us. When I got on the net when it became available same thing. Now I understand with the way people present themselves why people hate us. Please realize not all of us are like this. Some of us are very loving, accepting and tollerant. Some of us are thinkers and do not blindly accept like sheep. I hope we can get back to our old values. Not all of us are bad. Our country is based on good and hopefully we can get to our old values. I am truly sorry if you have been insulted or had an experience with the "dirty" american or someone has cursed at you. I apologize for their behavior.

I cannot leave. It is sometimes because we are based on good things and that is something to be very proud of. It is embarassing when we commit social injustice to our own or other people. Yeah I cannot spell. I am a victum of the american school system. I went to one of the worst american schools in the nation. I have a high IQ, but no money was put into my education. Pity huh? I am not sure england is offering me citizenship, but i would have a better education if I had come from there. I also would have not been stabbed in my inner city school most likely. That would have been nice.

Like I said we are not all bad. While I support the soldier as they are just following order I feel that the actions they are being made to take are making terrorism wose. I wish they had been allowed to stay here and work on homeland security. Then I would feel they were making me safer. I always appreciate people serving me, but not the orders they have to follow. I am less safe because americans are hated more post 9/11 due to the millitary actons they are forced to do. It is not the soliders who I support and respect completely. It is the orders they are forced and court marsheled if they follow. I am apologizeing for all the cursing and meaness others get. I did not want to hear from angry americans, but others.

sometimes i am embarassed to be british. a lot of us show no respect for other cultures or languages. and since languages are what i am best at and i love other cultures, i hate this. just for the record i don't steriotype americans. like you say a lot of americans are really nice.
i shall just apologise now for my fellow brits behavior at times!!

Make apologies for yourself. If you are so embarassed by being American then perhaps you should immigrate to another country. This is not an America love it or leave it statement. I fully support your rights to have an opinion, and don't consider you less of an American for having one. However I take offense at your apologies in the name of all Americans.

I am not a sheep, I am not intolerant or ignorant, and I don't think we have to bow down and kiss the nether regions of the rest of the world. The rest of the world should concern themselves with their own affairs, and less with the affairs of the United States.
In short make apologies for yourself if you want, and let everyone take care of their own business. The only intolerance I see here is yours towards your own country, coupled with a severe arrogance that you are somehow more compassionate or intelligent than us lowly misguided mortals. You do not know what is best for everyone no matter how much of a legend in your own mind you are. Kindly get over yourself and stop trying to speak for everyone else!

You post anti-american rhetoric and then get upset because Americans respond, and we are the ignorant ones. . You are an America hater, and you will obviously continue to hate America unless everyone lives life on your terms. You should be embarrassed to be an American, because you are part of the problem. It is not that people are sheep, it is that people are not taught to know what the government really is, because the government wants to keep people out of their hair. You talk about great founders, are these the same founders that had slaves? But all of that aside you are not looking at the real issue, if they hate America then they hate themselves as well. Because America is not made up from Americans, it is derived from every form of culture we can find on the planet. These people that they hate are there people too. Did you ever think that maybe they hate us because we are number 1 and have been around less time then them? Did you ever think that maybe they hate us because people from their countries run to live here and live the dream. Did you every think that maybe they hate us because they want to be us?

I totaly agree with you. However I do think that people in other countries can tell between different types of Americans. There are the ones that the outside world thinks most of us are, rude, ignorant, and all that, and than there are the kinder people and so on. I was at a resturant in paris and there was another american family there, they were being loud and agressive, the waiter came over to the table i was sitting at with some freinds and told us that they dont mind "our kind" but hate those "agressive idiots".

It is not up to you to apologize for the behavior of others. Although we are Americans, we are not responsible for other individual's actions. We are responsible for ourselves. Anyone with an ounce of sense realizes that all countries and cultures have a cross-section of intelligent, caring people along with the hateful and intolerant, . This is the way the world is. Yes, but especially when I spell. The educator and dictionary publisher Noah Webster advocated broad changes to the rules of spelling to make it more consistent, in order to promote literacy. However, most people didn't really go for it. Unfortunately, they took SOME changes. The result is that only Americans have a rather odd glitch in their spelling. It's so embarrassing sometimes.

Adobeprincess, I think you are like a lot of Americans. You have a sense of guilt and a feeling of being responsible for what goes wrong in the world. This could be because of your Puritan heritage. My country was founded by convicts. I don't feel embarrassed to be Australian although I probably should.

The Bush Administration broke the Geneva Convention, and our word as a nation. He was responsible for the torture and murder of POW's. Just one of many embarassments to our country in the last 5 terrible years.
