Cherokee with 130,000 miles has a whomp - whomp -whomp noise in the rear....speeds up the faster you go.
Any suggestions? (It is not the tires)

Have you tried rotating the tires? I know your description stated that it was not the tires but i would rotate to make sure. Other check would be the rear axle. Check the oil level in the rear end. You can remove the cover on the rear end and check for abnormal wear. The cover will have a magnet on it so any metal shavings will be captured. Check the axle bearings as well. Remove the tires and brake drums and check for slack in the bearing. The axle will move in and out some but it should not move up and down. Do you have aggressive tire treads? Good luck.

A bent tire rim could cause that noise, a bent axle too. Jack up the rear end, spin the tires and see if there's any wobble in the tires.
