Good question! How about... a place for world leaders to discuss things. A place to mediate conflicts before they get out of hand?

It may not be the best place, the best system, it may be slow, cumbersome and sometimes ineffective. But is the US trying to fix this, or degrade it through Ambassador Bolton?

It IS the aim of the neocons and the administration to undermine the UN, ultimately even pull out of it. This would really leave no world forum.

I think it's funny that lately some Republicans have been portraying Bush's policies as "Wilsonian". Didn't Woodrow Wilson stake his reputation on the success of the League of Nations, the predecessor to the UN? The idea was that diplomacy, coming together of nations could stop wars.

They are a pressure relief valve so that these damn hot spots have some method to slow them down. What do you want them to do? Police the world? Send in cops? The gripe cause they are taking over and being too heavy handed? It is an diplomatic organization for crying out loud.

They're a "humanitarian" group hell bent on the starvation of millions in Africa (why is "THAT" problem not solved yet???) and to insure that terrorism "succeeds" around the world. and to line their pockets with the money that is allotted to them to end both of these egregious problems.
