We are flying out of Cleveland, to Seattle (around 7 hours with 1 stop); then from Seattle to Okinawa (around 20 hours with 1 stop). My main concern is my 2 yr old, he is very ornery and not always easy to keep occuppied, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Be prepared. Hopefully they will sleep some of the time but you could investigate using fenegan to make them sleep. Speak to your Dr and DO try it out before the journey as these drugs can make childre hyper rather than sleepy. Take away some of your children's favourite toys and hide them and then bring them out on the plane. Treat the two journeys separately and have stuff you will bring out in different places. Especially for the 2 yr old wrap up everything in paper as it is great fun to unwrap things, even if it is only a pencil. Have somethings that can be made (lego etc) , some things to colour in (not so good for a 2 yr old but if you have wrapped the book and each chunky crayon seperately that will keep him going for a while), things to eat that take a long time, and even challenges( can you eat the raisins one at a time with out using your hands?) and some thing you can read to them. Buy head phones, there should be things for them to listen to on the plane but for the 2 yr old it might be better to buy the Fisher Price Walkman or ipod and have tapes/cds/download nursery rhymes and stories. When ever you can let your 2 yr old rush around at airports and avoid sugary food and drinks. Make sure they drink lots of water as flying is very dehydrating and the 2 yr old could get very cranky because he doesn't realise he needs to drink. There should be things for the 6 year old handed out and on some long haul flights they have game boys in the back of the seats. But take things as well so he doesn't feel left out. Good luck. I'd say let us know how you get on but I'm not sure we would catch your reply.

If you have a portable DVD player that helps, or a portable game systems such as Nintendo DS or PSP. You can get a Gameboy or Gameboy advance pretty cheap these days. Otherwise if you can get on a Boeing 777 on the long runs that will help since each chair has an entertainment system with movies and shows on several channels and several video games that you get to enjoy through out your flight.

Seattle to Okinawa on one stop? Sounds like the Patriot Express via Yokota on AMC (Air Mobility Command). In that case I guess you go on the type of plane they decide.

the most obvious answer is just to give them something to play. for your 6 yr old, i suggest a video game (gameboy). but for your two yr old child...it's a little bit difficult...let's see...i'm thinking of building blocks and clay (play doh) but i guess it's messy since you're going to take the plane......how about a picture book or something he can write on?...what does your 2 yr old like doing?

A shot of vodka in their coke.

Just kidding!

A portable DVD player and an armload of Disney DVDs will do. I've seen parents have one for each child as they have varying tastes. Hey, kids are sophisticated these days.

Get him coloring books and crayons. Make up a story each time he finishes coloring one.
