The military is an excellent place to grow up and develop skills that you can use as a cop.
You don't have to enlist for a lifetime...a couple of years may be enough.
AND...in some states...you can go straight to the Police Academy as a civilian...when you complete your POST - you are a cop...without an agency...but that POST 1 certificate and your military experience put you at the top of any hiring list.
Good luck in your decision making...work it out with dad...he wants whats best for you and realizes the dangers of a military commitment today. He has every reason to be scared for you...try to understand that when you two talk about it.

If you join the military first, you will be able to pursue a career in law enforcement when you retire. At a much better pay scale and you won't have to start at the bottom. My sons SGT. just retired the USAF and is going to be a Detective some where in Arizona. Joining the military gives you many opportunities for the future, however with the state of affairs in our Country it should really be a family decision because you being in the military will effect your whole family. I support my son 100% on his choice to join the military, but he has been overseas twice and I have to tell you it is hard on all of us at home!!

As a military man myself, I favor the military; as a member of the law enforcement community, I still favor the military, and as a father I favor having children select their own career paths in life, and as an adult with free will, I favor fully exercising the rights of adults to make (and stand by) their own choices. *Note: Both law enforcement and military service have sometimes grave responsibilities associated with them apart from those which are obviously apparent on the surface. Both are noble professions, but someone entering either or both should go into them with their eyes wide open, and having made a fully informed decision. Good luck to you; I suspect either group will be well served having you among their ranks.

You do what you want to do. Its not upto your family to tell you what career to choose, as your the one that will be doing it for the good part of your life. Your father should love you and be proud of you know matter what career path you chose. If you wanted to be a cop you wouldnt be thinking of the military, i think youve answered your own question.

If you listen to your father, he will be happy, but will you? It is cler that you should do what YOU want. If there's conflict in your family because of this, you could try sitting down with your dad and explaining the similarities in career, and why you have chosen military. If you feel you can't talk to him, you could write it in a letter. But trust me, if you follow your fathers dreams, you will feel regret, and possibly even grow to resent and loathe him because of this. Good luck with your decision.

Military 1st, then be a cop following your military carrier, or remain in the military and be an MP.

Do what makes you happy not your father's.he already lived his life am guessing he didn't do what his parents wants him to do.in other what he is a little concern about you he feels like once you join the military you would be ship off to the war zone and he doesn't wants to lose you in the war.so if you think you can handle it go for it.good luck to you.

Join the military and be military cop. It'll be pleasing you both. Most importantly, do as YOU want.

.....Wow, i do not even recognize what to assert to that. Your answer for having self-worth themes is to develop into gay? Do you imagine which could magically make issues better? properly, sorry, yet you could't verify which gender you want. you may have sex with adult males and stuff, yet except you're actually bi or gay and do not recognize it yet, you gained't take exhilaration in it. And adult males aren't any a lot less likely to discover you gruesome (i'm no longer putting forward you're gruesome, merely putting forward adult males nonetheless have their tastes too...).
