I know that it is really hard to be admitted to a Canadian University, how can I impress them? espacially that I am applying for PhD?

You should go to the website of the university(which you can find on Yahoo!) after that you go to the department in which you want to do research and see the research projects going on in that department if you find some suitable to your area then contact the concerned professor abou the possibility of further research. This can be continued for other univesities of your choice. Once you get a green signal from the professor in that area fill up the form and do other formalities.
