Laughter is created by the uneven flow of air passing over the larynx, hence the vibration of laughter has pitch and variables according to the space between each reverberation of sound or air. When you laugh or cry or sing the said same bodily functions all take place, they tense and relax as if they were being exercised. Laughter of course is stimulated by the brain which perceives that which is funny or comical to us, hence we laugh.

The overall sound quality of our laughter, speech and singing voice is hormonal with very few variations of which loudness has no part.

A light high pitched laugh, cry or singing voice is indicative of youthfulness. A child's laughter can be very high pitched and will only drop or develop at some point between the age of 12 and 20. Notice here I have given you an extension of the years in which we are teenagers, and whilst most of you reading this will think this is only the case for boys, it is also true for girls but the difference in quality of pitch range is shorter.

For example a boy treble can be either an alto or soprano, once the change takes place he could naturally develop into a bass, a baritone or a tenor. Few boys will maintain a high voice range, but those who do will be natural counter tenors and again with a quality of sound closely akin to that of there female counterpart. Contralto, Mezzo Soprano or Soprano. With the girls this transformation concerns itself with a rounding off of tonal quality as opposed to pitch.

We laugh cry and sing within the same vocal quality and range.

If you were to develop your singing voice the quality and range of sounds within the human voice develops further. For women a second hormonal stage of development takes place during the menopause, which can occurr naturally at any age between say 33 and 53. Female Classicsl Singers hate this period as some changes can be so drastic there livelihood can be affected. For as we age our range can drop and somtimes god forbid it develop a midway break between the lowest notes and the highest notes. Abuse of it will lead to a crackle and loss of income. Hence this final period in a trained singers career is often a curse. Hormonal changes in the throat mean the vocal chords losing there elasticity as they become dry.

Enjoy the laughter of youth whilst you can.

The way we laugh depends upon which emotion has triggered it.

Humour, pleasure, pain, fear, embarrassment, nervousness, sadness, others misfortunes may all induce varying types of laughter.

Crying frequently turns to laughter and laughter can reduce you to tears.

so that when aliens first see us laugh, they'll think we're having some sort of fit (and they probably won't get the punch line either).
