Right now?

I`m crying over all the cilivians killed in Iraq and Lebanon.
But that would never make a number one radio hit song.
Seriously.

Over The Rainbow sung by Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole
He has such a pure voice that it made the the song even more sad.
(it was also on this CD that I found out he had died, I had met him and he was a wonderful guy, to hear he had died after trying so hard to get healthy again just added another sad part ot the song)

Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole was a Hawaiin recording artist. He was over 700 pounds, and struggling to loose some of that weight before it did more harm to his body. He recorded "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" in just one take, with just his vocals and the ukulele. He recorded four other songs after this "....Rainbow", and walked out of the recording studio, and never played the song again. Iz was one of only 1500 full-blooded Hawaiians left in the world, and this song because some type of an anthem for the islands.

Iz was Hawaii's first artist to have an album certified gold. Even Don Ho didn't accomplish that with "Tiny Bubbles." His version of "Over The Rainbow" became the number 1 bestselling song downloaded from the World Music section of iTunes. And Iz didn't live to see any of it.

It's a haunting story, as haunting as the simple melody and ukulele music.

Now it seems the advertising agencies have gotten ahold of it and you hear bits of it played on various commercials. Annoying, but if you can you should go listen to the whole thing.

1) Concrete Angel by Martina McBride: Songs about children being abused get to me every time. This song is just devastating. I have to admit that even her song "God's Will" gets to me a bit.

2) Suzanne Vega's "Luka": I don't cry during the song, but when you combine the song and the video...wow, it's powerful.

3) "Everybody Hurts" by REM: Gets me almost every time...especially with the video.

4) "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush...wow.

5) "One" by U2...It doesn't make me cry all the time, but it has and it's still a song that just impacts me when I hear it.

6) "Me and a Gun" by Tori Amos...knowing that it's based on a real event only makes it harder to listen to.

7) "Hold On" by Tom Waits. Still gets to me every time.

There may be others, but I think these are the really consistently tearjerking songs for me...

"Crying" by Roy Orbison & "I'm so Lonesome, I Could Die"
by BJ Thomas. Last Kiss (can't remember who)...It's about a guy who loses the love of his life in a car accident...it just rips me up..He sings, "Where or where, could my Baby be? The Lord just took her away from me"...gets me every time (sniff).
