There are, unfortunately, multiple answers to your question; and once again, unfortunately, I don't have the time to give you a comprehensive answer. You could literally write many volumes on the subject. So I'll give you a general answer, and I hope that will suffice.

In the west, the Ideals of liberalism mutated into socialism largely due to the input of the Fabian Society in England (founded in 1884). The fabulous wealth and power of19th century Britain came about as a result of Britain's devotion to the liberal economist Adam Smith, and his insistance on free market capitalism. But by the late 19th century, many individuals began to see the social costs of this enterprise as too great a price to pay. The idea of liberalism is essentially FREEDOM. For early liberals, like Smith, this meant FREEDOM TO do as they please. But for the Fabians the idea of freedom had mutated into FREEDOM FROM poverty and want. This change in the perception of freedom is essential in understanding how liberalism gave birth to the socialist movement.

I don't know. Why don't you tell us, since you obviously already know the answer to your own question?
