How do I turn an old t-shirt into a halter top?

I saw a craft book on a show, but i cannot remember the author and it was how to update old t-shirts.

Well these are the steps I think should be taken to make a halter top:

1. Cut the sleeves of the t-shirt in an angle to reach the neck. At the neck should look like a point.

2. Go to a craft store and buy a nice string or ribbong to match your t-shirts style.

3. At the point, sew the tip of the strings at the point very well.

4. Put it on for a great fit!

It does take practice to do this project. If you don't want to ruin your t-shirt to soon, practice from other t-shirts, like buying some at the craft store to practice on them. I hope your halter turns out gorgeous!

Andrea's answer is great.
Here is some added info for doing the back of it.
After cutting the angle from the sleeves up to the neck, proceed in cutting the back part away from the exisiting neckband that is on the t-shirt.
You can fold it under, hand sew or machine sew,insert some elastic so it doesn't sag.
If you don't cut the neck part then you just slip it over your head .
Another suggestion is to cut off the neck, insert the ribbon, string, or leftover t-shirt material that you have tied or sewn in sections and thread it through the front to the back to the tightness of the fit you need.
