Is it against the law to send music files through MSN Messenger?will I get caught for doing that?

Merely sending files is not illegal. If you do not have the copyright or permission to distribute the material from the copyright holder, then THAT is illegal.

The attached link to an article written in 2003 outlines RIAA's plan of action. Since then, RIAA has brought thousands of suits against "regular" people for copyright infringement. I really don't believe you sending a music file through MSN Messenger quite constitutes what the RIAA feels is an infringement.

Federal law and the federal courts have been quite clear on what is not legal. It is illegal to make available for download copyrighted works without permission of the copyright owner.
