True, inside his head -- these are his true thoughts, his true writings, - but hey, if I told you I ate a whole bunch of peyote and this is what happened, I became a dog and bit my gorlfriend etc etc.. I may not be lying but.. you have to accept that the perceptions of reality he was experiencing were most likely in another state - such as dream or imagination..

It is a good read, but I wouldn't go jumping off the top of any mountians if I were you. I believe if you go look up an old interview of his wife, she is quoted as saying that he never went to Mexico during the time he was writing the books.
