Before jumping in and saying no here is a few facts for you:

Unlike the banks over the Border, where the Bank of England has had a monopoly, the three largest banks in Scotland still design and print their own notes.

When the Roamans were the most powerfull ppz in the world they had to build a wall to between Scotland and England to keep the Scots from kikn their *** out of britian.

Scotland has the city of Aberdeen which is: The city of granite and the oil capital.

The telephone was invented by the scots.

Wee have Nessy!! (well shes gotta count for sumthn).

And may more....

Ohh and the Scots seem to be more popular with the rest of the world than the English ....

No, because Scotland is too small and hasn't had any experience in self-government in a long time. It has a population of only about 5 million, which is dwindling too, and it probably couldn't stand up on its own. Let's face it, Scotland needs England.

Do you really think Scotland could've afforded its new parliament? No way. It needed English contributions for that £431 million pound arty building.

But Scotland is already standing on its own in many ways.
It has its own cultural symbols: national costume, national anthems, national food (haggis, porridge, Scotch pies), national library, clan tartans, musicians, bagpipes (not of Scottish origin), inventions, Scots law etc.

It maintains these things very well, while relying on money from England's 50 million+ people. Understandably, this gets up the kilts of some Scots, as well as the English; this reliance on England's wallet and military protection.

Scotland is standing on the shoulder of the English giant.

In response to Jay, many people in Northern Ireland would be very happy to for NI to have its own rule but unfortunately we have former terrorists on one side and bigots on the other side as ministers who cannot even sit at a table together. Maybe if the English didn't set out to take over the Irish land and crops in the past we wouldn't be in the situation we are today. As a Northern Irish citizen I have to say it is an embarrassment to have to say I am British when an idiot such as Blair is in power.

In response to the question I would like to think that the British government is just as dependant on NI, Scotland and Wales. If each was no longer under direct rule they would no longer be able to make money off our taxes and rates etc. I would like to see the day when we all get some independance from England.

Nope... they would not be able to afford to live in the manor they do now, their economy relies to heavily on England and we give them lots of money.

Think the population is only around 5m compared to England's ~60m. Countries with small populations are generally reliant on other big ones to support them and so if Scotland split they would have difficulty attracting investment from business and so would lose lots of jobs and money. + the money they wouldn't be getting from English tax payers.

They would struggle to fund their health, police, fire brigade and education systems for a start. Let alone invest in new business, infrastructure and transport systems; which they would need if they where to seek independence.

Giving them their own Parliament is already a waste as it is a duplication of effort and so an unnecessary drain on the available resources.

The real truth? Scotland would be much better off if they were sovereign. England is sapping the resources from the Scottish and always have done so. Some of you loyalists of the house of windsor think that it's the other way around. All of the money from english owned franchises and corporations trickle into #10 Downing street, and always have. Give all of the land of "my island" back to the true indigenous people of the (so called british isles) slimy limey saxon pinheads! Go back to Deutchland!

NB.: I am from a different continent.
All the English did in history was to rule over territories that they ended up ransacking, thus their wealth. Most of the discoveries were made by Scots or Irish, while the Englishman was in India giving out orders to thier subordinates. So you must be right.

I really hope that happens then we can send all of the Scots back and put up border patrols.I would also go 1 further and scrap the British Passport and let you have a Scottish 1.

I think that with the exception of a few anglophobes in Edinburgh (which face it is another English city in disguise, anyway), most of the Scots don't give two hoots, or should that be two hoots, mon!
In the Highlands, the world is so far removed from the rest of the UK, I don't think they actually care that much. My family certainly don't. They still have pride in their country and quite rightly so, but they have far more important things to worry about.

I think Scotland would be bankrupt very quickly, i can see why Scots would like their independance and there is nothing wrong with that but i really dont think they have enough financal resources to survive without the cash from england

You mean if it was sepArated from the UK!? You are a rebel.
Look at all those countries that wanted 'independence'. They are more dependent now than ever before. It's never done any nation any good.
