did you pick up a penny today? maybe you should toss a penny on the floor and pick it up so the birds will shut up so you can get some sleep... if you're lucky.

No, you've got it wrong. The saying is: "See a PIN and pick it up, all that day you'll have good luck."
You were supposed to fix it in your clothes and carry it around with you. If it dropped out of your clothes, you lost the luck, and it was there on the ground for the next person to pick up.
I don't know where the saying came from. It must have been from a time when people didn't have zips, but had to pin their clothes together. Some people must have been very poor, and the best luck they were likely to get was from finding a pin.
I don't think it would work now.
However I do think you should pick up the penny. If you turn up your nose at the penny, Lady Luck may not offer you anything else. What I do is I take them home and put them in a jar, when there is enough I will give it to charity. You would be surprised how quickly it mounts up.

For some reason, people believe that picking up a penny is good luck but in actual fact, it is a pin. Try saying it again, it even sounds better because that is the original saying. I wonder where the penny bit comes from because most people believe it is a penny. I hope that you find a pin very soon and have lots of luck all day long!

In old England a penny was a decent wage. So if you found a penny it meant that you could pay your rent or buy food. That was very good luck, but if you gave it to someone else who was more needy than you, it would increase your luck. You would be considered a good and kind person. Since this was a predominently christian era there, it would help you get into heaven because you were thinking of the needs of others before yourself.

If you see a penny on the ground and Queens head is facing upwards then pick it up and make a wish and try to spend it within one day, if you see a penny on the ground and its tails, then automatically pass it straight onto the first person you see so you can pass the luck around, don't know why your supposed to do it this way but my mam always taught me to and all I can say it works for me, I know if you pick a pin up all the day you will have good luck, but not heard of it for penny's, everyone has their own beliefs in superstitions and I guess the ones you grew up with tend to be the ones that work best for you.

Its foolish to depend on the luck bcoz u may find a penny but u will lost a shilling.
Bcoz it means that it is not yours and U are paid the interest for the penny U have taken.
It means that it is not lucky for all.

I suggest you emigrate to Venus to get more ping for your penny. That way your good luck will last for 243 earth days!
Mind you, you'd need all the luck you can get out there.
