The director and producers are not in charge of distribution. There are only a few distributors of films in each country and if they don't like it, it stays on the shelf for years. Or sometimes a film will come out in another country before the place where it was made, because a foriegn distributor is willing to take a chance. There are many good films and TV series sitting on shelves that may never be seen because the powers that be would rather distribute the commercial "junkfood" type films that bring in the boxoffice money.

There are many reasons. It has to do w/ costs, actors age and availability of key players.
It is advantageous to shoot the scenes for all of the sequels set at one location versus tearing it down just to redo it later.
It is more cost efficient to travel and house the crew once versus different trips.
Talent may need to look roughly the same age and may not be available a couple of years down the road. To retain them on contract that far in the future and lock up their schedule could be very expensive.
Also, the studio needs time to recoup some of the costs as a lot of money is spent on production. When you add post production costs and distribution and marketing costs it would take an enormous cash outlay to fully produce and distribute all sequels at the same time.
Studios want to take advantage of the paraphernalia sales and, hopefully, give time for the public to buy so they can have a piece of it and leave them, anticipating and wanting the next film and new swag and new characters.
Just a few reasons, in my opinion, and I'm sure there are many more.

You're right.
I think probably is because they need to "make corrections",plan how to advertise it and things like that.
