I've been watching from the sidelines in an online forum an individual becoming progressively more vocal and extreme in his advocation of violence towards a particular 'group' of people. I understand a lot of talk on the net is just trash talk, and I don't interact with the individual so I have no vested interest (im not a member of the 'group' he targets) but I am generally becoming concerned as the commentary is increasing in it's desire for violence and even killing, including that of children of the target group. Usually I would just ignore it, but this seems to be building up, more and more, and I'm wondering if it might seriosuly end in him acting on it. I've studied pysch and his communication seems to display the classic personality patterns of a sociopath. I understand that the 'Yahoo abuse' channel is completely useless. Essentially it seems to be extremely violence-based hate speech. If it's just talk, fine, but what if i do nothing and he ends up acting on his words?

Difficult one indeed.Report him anyway or keep reporting him. It's the only tool you have and if you place a link in additional details maybe others can do the same.If you don't feel comfortable with him knowing that you raised this issue send me a mail with the links. What I hear from you,I report in such cases and am not shy about it.We all have our moral responsibility when confronted with danger.I tolerate very open debate but violence is unacceptable.

Create an additional or even fake ID on the forum. Tell him he has been observed for some time now, and is being watched, and investigation is pending. Offer and explain that he may want to re-evaluate his position in life since he's heading down a narrow and restricting path, one that will ultimately end up with a solitary cell.

Feel free to mail and message him back and forth, since you are protected through anonymity. And document and/or save ALL of the chats and mails for presentation to the proper channels when/if he gets violent with you.

Generally speaking: If he's a talker, he will back down. If he's dangerous, it will be an ugly online battle. If he's clever and dangerous, he might say nothing, or pretend to back down, but you will know by his words whether he's sincere or not. If you scare him, he might feel threatened and really act pissed, it's hard to say, but experts can usually tell.

Good Luck, and thanks for watching out for others... :)

I think that if this individual is threatening to kill people, you should get the police involved. Even if you're talking about an international forum, your local police force can contact the law enforcement of the country where this person lives. If you're talking about someone on Yahoo answers, maybe contact Yahoo and ask for their help. They might have experience with such cases and know how to handle them.

You have a moral obligation to let the police know. You don't know this person or what he is capable of. You can be anonyomous. If you don't and something bad happens and you could have done something to prevent it, will you be able to live with yourself? If you are studying pysch then you already know people can be unpredictable. I wouldn't want that on my karma.

The point is, even if you can cause some consequences for him, those will be minor, and i guess they won't make him think in another way. And you can not prohibit him to speak. It is sad, but it is like that.
If you really want to stop him, be more clever then him... and never act in anger with such people.

I don't suppose you could email this interchange and your concerns to: FBI, your local police establishment, state police. Someone therein ought to be able to help or at the very least be able to provide some decent advice.
