Ignoring the nicely literate learn to spell "math", sorry I know you are American but you misspelt one word in your answer and in the English speaking word it is definitely "maths" not "math".
The best way to get good at maths is to learn the basics off by heart - times tables, simple rules for evaluating whether your answers are likely to be correct and so on. Studying is the only way to make this happen but concentrating on the underlying rules rather than on the big problems will make things far easier in the long run.

practice...knowing the basics makes everything else come a lot easier. like you might think that knowing all of your times tables is childish but so much algebra etc is dependant upon such workings out, and dont just do up to 10 do as high as you can and make sure you know them off by heart and backwards etc
also there are different tricks that make maths easier like knwoing that for the 11 times tables a lot of them work by adding the two outside numbers and using that as the middle number...eg 13x11= 1...3 (pull the first number apart and leave a gap between)
(then fill that gap with the sum of the two digits...1+3=4)
13x11=143....simple things like that can make a big difference.

You don't have to study maths but basically, just keep practising and remember the formulas. That way, you'll not only be the best, but, the best of the best!

First of talk to yourself what is that whch scares u of maths , attack ur weakpoints. Clear your concepts that are weak and then try on your books.
First always read the teory carefully and all soved examples. Then try as many no.s of unsolved questions u can. Discuss the problems with your math teacher.
List down all the important formulae and theorems on a chart and paste it on walls of ur room.
Hope that is sufficient.

Practise as much as possible.
Listen really well, cutting out all distractions when you are being taught.
Always be prepared to ask if you don't understand.
Always read over the work covered that day to consolidate understanding. Believe in yourself!

I don't know how old you are, but your times tables is one of the first things you should be really comfortable with. This helps your mental arithmetic no end.
I learned my times tables at primary school and it stood me in good stead at secondary school.
