Just to clarify this is not a boyfriend but a close friend that I grew up with. Yes, he made mistakes in life and he is paying for them now - I moved 5 yrs ago and lost ties with him – I just found out that he is in jail serving a long term sentence unfortunately his family disowned him and doesn’t want to know anything about him – this brings great sadness to me - so I do not want to give him my back and I can’t judge him since I am not God., so I just want to be there for him and try to understand him now that he has recognized his mistakes (unfortunately to late) Just wanted to clarify this for people that gave “rude” answers...

Try here.. If he's in a federal prison..

else..

To locate an inmate within the California Department of Corrections, please call (916) 445-6713, which is available 24 hours a day. You must have either the inmate's CDC number, or the inmate's full name and date of birth to receive information. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will provide an inmate's location, mailing addresses and relevant phone numbers. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will not provide any future release date information. Please note that for new or transferring inmates it can take up to seven business days to update location information.

I don't think any jail has internet access anywhere because its cost would be prohibitive to install, and the people there are being punished not coddled. Find yourself a law abiding boyfriend. One who doesn't do dangerous drugs or sex with other boys. I know thats a tall order but those who are on the internet at least have some skills that are marketable.
