The best thing to do is contact your local job centre, tell them the situation. they will point you in the right direction.

I receive both. BUT you will have to go through the CSA (As part of the income support) to get money from the childs father. If you opt out without a valid reason, it can affect the amount of benefit they pay you.

You will be given a phone number to contact for income support, who then process your claim and make an appointment for you to attend at the jobcentre. When you go the the appointment, the advisor will fill in your child tax credit application for you and you will be advised on any other benefits you are entitled to. ie, council tax benefit, housing benefit.

The sooner you get this part sorted, the sooner you get money! Go tomorrow without fail.

You actually get both. Income support is now only paid out for the parent and the child gets child tax credit. When you claim for income support you automatically put a claim in for tax credit its done together :)

Both as Income Support does not pay for the children anymore. Check the Inland Revenue and Jobcentre plus webiste. As long you are claiming Child Benefit, the tax credit claim should be sorted out in 4 weeks.
