actually, Jeff Healy plays regular electric guitar. If you look, not even closely, you can tell he's just playing a regular stratocaster electric guitar on his lap.
He has allways played the guitar this way. This allows him to play chord and scale positions unavailable when playing the guitar in the usual fashion (because he can use his left hand thumb in addition to the other 4 digits).
Steel guitars, are played using a metal bar and finger picks, NOT a regular blues slide, and can be further identified as Lap steels (or hawaiian steel guitars), regular Steel Guitar, and pedal steel guitar (which adds pedals and knee levers to change the notes of particular strings, and is usually played with a volume pedal as well).

As you now know his name is Jeff Healey but he does not play a (lap) steel guitar. He plays a regular guitar on his lap. This is a very unique way of playing. Hes great.

I don't think he's the worst.. He's no terrible at playing guitar.. Just terrible at rapping, but obviously he's nowhere near as good as Jimmy Hendrix as I would easily rate him as a top 5 guitarist and Lil Wayne wouldn't even be on the top 100

Right now Jeff Healey is playing Jazz music (mostly on trumpet) and getting good reviews on his new cd "It's Tight Like That"
