for as long as i can remember, ive always had trouble sleeping, staying asleep, waking up and staying awake. i m ALWAYS incredibly tired, but when it come time to where im ready to lay down and sleep. it can take up to an hour to fall asleep. when i finally do fall asleep, i have strange dreams and nightmares, which will sometime cause me to wake in the middle of the night. after i wake, itll taake a long time to get back to sleep. ill sometimes sleep in until 2 in the afternoon and after getting up, ill be almost like in a zombie state. i feel weak, lethargic, cranky, tired, and sometimes nauseous. ive tried ambien to help me fall -and stay- asleep, but i just end up hallucinating on the medication, and i found it to be be addictive at times. HELP!!

Have you ever had a sleep test? I've heard this complaint from people many times...they get lots of sleep, but are still tired & weak in the morning! A few of these people went for a sleep test & found out they have "Sleep Apnea". Here's a site with the symptoms. It can cause your oxygen level to drop to as low as 30% during the night! Maybe you can ask your doctor if this test is right for you...it couldn't hurt if you are at wit's end.

hi there, first things first, how much do you weigh? personnel question i know but it's important. also, when is the last time you've had a sleep test done? your description discribes the symptoms of sleep apnea exactly. if it's taking you over an hour to get to sleep that means something isn't healthy with you, it shouldn't take no more than 15 minutes for you to fall asleep. first thing you need to do is get on the phone and call your doctor to schedule a sleep test, they take 2 nights. first night will decide just how bad your sleeping is and assess the seriousness of your sleep. the second night is called titration night, you will be fitted with a mask that blows gentle air into your nostrils while you sleep, this keeps your soft palette and tongue at bay allowing air to pass to and from your nostrils to your lungs without any blockage. ambien is keeping you asleep during these episodes at night and your brain is starving from oxegen, this is causing you to have near death dreams or vivid states of imagination i.e. i see a bright light at the end of the tunnel, i felt jesus touching me on the shoulder ect, ect... your brain is telling you to wake up and breath... stop taking the ambien until you can get a sleep test, trust me i know what i'm talking about bud.

My suggestion is to make an appointment with a mental health professional. I work in the field, it is not scary, it will be a good experience. You will at least be able to tell a Psychiatrist (preferable), or Psychologist about all the symptoms you have mentioned here, then take their advice and see if what they recommend works.
I have heard of others for whom sleeping pills did not work because they had an underlying issue such as Depression, and once that was treated most of the other problems improved. Depression can mask as alot of physical symptoms like you describe.

take more vit. b complex, it promotes the production red blood cells, therefore more oxygen in the body. Red blood cells carry oxygen and distribute all over the body. Go for a walk everyday at least an hour. Be conscious with your breathing when walking preferably in a park or in a forest to increase oxygen intake. About an hour, keep the windows in the bedroon before going to bed for ventilation. If prefered, close again the windows when you are to sleep.

You could have sleep apnea. I know it sounds CRAZY but I was doing the same thing and actually what was happening was I wasn't falling into the deep realm of sleep my body needed for actual rest at night. I was so miserable. I slept so much I almost lost my job. Get this checked ASAP. Your doctor can refer you to the right person for a sleep test.
Best of luck and happy snoozing soon!

You should maybe have some of the "strange dreams" you mentioned analyzed by a psychologist. You could email to me if you can't afford to go to a psychologist, I am friends with the best in the state and could have them analyzed. I too have trouble shutting my brain off to sleep, it could be depression or adhd which I was diagnosed as 13 years ago.

You should talk to a doctor. There are many causes of extreme tiredness. Depression, thyroid disorders, etc. Go talk to your physician, can't hurt.
