There is a scheme where by having two electricity meters you can have cheeper electicity overnight. This used to be called "Economy 7", but it is only available if you have the special meter fitted (hence people having night storage heaters, and delay timers on Dishwashers etc.).

I am not aware of any similar feature for gas users.

Nope = You can get a special Economy 7 scheme for Electricity but you need to be setup for that where it stores your electricity and you can get it cheap later.

you could ask your gas/electricity enterprise about "social tariff" in case you could educate you spend in extra of 10% of your earnings on gas expenditures. edit - you do not ought to be unemployed to ask for this - merely be low wages or spending too a lot (better than 10% in gas expenditures)
