And do Americans still get paid to do it. I started giving blood because I had to receive some when I had my first child, a few years ago I had to stop giving, because if you received blood within a certain period (which I did) you can't give any longer, because of BSE.

I give blood & as soon as my son turned 17 he began to donate too. You have to be 17 years old & 7½ stone to donate. I'm also a bone marrow donor volunteer but I haven't been asked for a match yet, maybe because A+ is quite common & they have others on their list that registered before me. I'm thinking of becoming a platelet donor because I can do that more often, but I'm not very well off & probably wouldn't be able to afford the parking fees, we don't even get paid for expenses in England, let alone for the blood.

I've heard we Americans can get paid $10 bucks or so for it. I gave a couple of times, but I'm so small of a guy for my height, they usually won't take blood from me. But my family is small, so I know I'm healthy, but they just think I'm a druggie. So I quit going, even though I've never done any illegal drugs in my life. My dad and brothers all have the same results when they try to give blood. If they took it, I wouldn't want any money though, that would defeat my purpose of giving. I admire you, even though you can't give anymore, atleast you try. Good luck. Ron

I have never but I am going to...next week. In America, one can get paid or can just donate it. Also, I think anyone who sells blood can get paid in America, not just Americans !
I would donate (not sell). I have a philosophical reasoning to do so - when I was born, I didnt pay anybody for my blood. So, how can I charge money for that blood.

I donate my blood because it's a good thing to do and because I'm AB-, which is very rare (though AB- people can receive any type of negative blood). I've always donated for free. You can give plasma for money, though, though I never have.

I voluntarily donate blood a few times a year.
There are places where you can get paid to donate blood. Actually, you can make more if you donate plasma, because you can do that more frequently.
Call the local American Red Cross chapter for more info.

Its not the same as donating blood. Bigger needle and hurts a lot more.

I am 0 positive, but when I wanted to donate blood, I've been told that I am too slim to do it. Apparently the weight matters

How the hell do they use A negative blood for premature babies? That depends on the baby's blood type, doesn't it?
