The morning after pill can work in one of two ways. It can prevent ovulation (the release of an egg), which will in turn prevent conception (the joining of egg and sperm to form a new human being). This is not an abortion.

HOWEVER, if conception has already occurred, the morning after pill can prevent the baby from implanting in his or her mother's womb when he or she is approximately 7-10 days old. This IS an early abortion. If a woman takes the morning after pill, she has no way of knowing whether or not she has aborted her child.

The morning after pill will not cause an abortion. It works like the pill, only in higher horomone dosages. However, because these higher dosages aren't good for you, it isn't recommended to use it for every case. Thus, being an -emergency- contraceptive. Pretty much, if anyone thinks of the morning-after pill as abortion, they should feel the same way about all horomonal birth control. There -is- a type of pill (I don't know what it's called) that can cause abortion, but I think that's outlawed in the States, and possibly some other countries.

hi

the Day after pill or MORNING AFTER PILL or Emergency Contraception or PLAN B tell you thats it is meant to be used only after an unplanned intercourse.

Emergency contraceptive pill are hormones that act both to prevent ovulation or fertilisation, or perhaps the subsequent implantation of a fertilised egg (zygote). They are not to be confused with chemical abortion methods that act after implantation has occurred.

But as it contains a high dose of hormone contraceptives it has more side effects. Common side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, and menstrual changes.

It has to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. When used correctly it reduces the risk of pregnancy by 89 percent after a single act of unprotected sex. Effectiveness of Morning After Pill declines as the interval between intercourse and the start of treatment increases.

By the deeply religious, yes.

By the medical profession, yes.

By the government, yes.

By the rest of the world, fifty/fifty.

But, by you is all that matters. All birth control can be considered an abortion by some. The question is are you one of those people. Are you?
