The first guy shakes 9 hands, the second guy shakes 8 hands (his hand shake with the first has already been counted), the third guy shakes 7 and so on till the 9th guy who shakes hand with the 10th one. The 10th guy doesn't have anybody else to shake hands with.

So the answer is 9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1= 45

Two hands equals one shake. So answer is not 90...

If every other person means every person other than him/herself then the answer is 90.


If you mean every other person as in shake, no shake, shake, no shake then I believe it is 45.


But then again I'm not a big math buff. I'm an English nerd. ^.~


EDIT--- I just missed the only once part. Haha! Helps if I read the whole question completely twice to make sure my ADD self doesn't get distracted and miss things like that.
