If I could change a few things in the past then I'd go there. If I couldn't then I want to take a peek at the future. Changing the past might change the future but in some cases that would be a good thing. To see the future gives ya a heads up.

Into the past because I can change the future that way. If I could travel into the future, I would be lost.

To the future! If you go to the past you can mess things up and cause yourself to not exist. But if you go to the future what if your future self sees your past self and flips out? And if you go too far into the future what if the planet is all polluted and gassy from war or atmospheric change or whatever and you die as soon as you step out of your time machine? Never mind, I'm too scared.

When you go into the past you lose all memory of where you came from or who you are. When you go into the future you are limited to the time you would actually have lived. Therefor you may be already dead when you get there.

It was late at night on the open road, speeding like a man on the run
A lifetime spent preparing for the journey.
He is closer now and the search is on, reading from a map in the mind:
Yes there's that ragged hill and there's a boat on the river.

And when the rain came down, he heard a wild dog howl
There were voices in the night
(Don't do it!)
Voices out of sight
(Dont't do it!)
Too many men have failed before, whatever you do;

Don't pay the ferryman!
Don't even fix a price!
Don't pay the ferryman
Until he gets you to the other side.

In the rolling mist, then he gets on board, now there'll be no turning back
Beware that hooded old man at the rudder.
And then the lightning flashed and the thunder roared,
and people calling out his name,
And dancing bones that jabbered-and-a-moaned on the water.

And then the ferryman said "There is trouble ahead,
So you must pay me now."
(Don't do it!)
"You must pay me now."
(Don't do it!)
And still that voice came from beyond, whatever you do;

Don't pay the ferryman!
Don't even fix a price!
Don't pay the ferryman
Until he gets you to the other side.

Tough one. I think I'd choose the future. I'd be afraid to screw up the past, plus I'd really like to see what state humanity is in come one to five hundred years in the future. Wouldn't it be cool to see if we ever reached space? Or wouldn't you want to know if humanity got wiped out in the future? It'd be far more interesting.

The one and only reason I'd travel to the past is to see if Jesus Christ actually existed or not.
