I'm not the same person I was as a child, nor do I believe anyone else is...over the course of life, you learn and absorb an enormous amount of information in nearly infinite areas...my thought processes and knowledge have certainly changed, as has my personality. Biologically and genetically, I would guess that short of natural aging, I am still the same basic organic unit, but being a "person" entails far more than just biology...it entails having a mind, heart and soul, and I do believe I've grown considerably since I was a child. I've gotten older, and hopefully I've gotten better as well

I received a box from my mother in the mail. Basically, it was all my childhood memories. There was my first children's Bible, my first children's picture dictionary, and my Mother Goose nursery rhyme book, in which I had graded the poems "good" "bad bad bad" "ok" or 'smiley face' . Included in the box were photographs from my elementary/ kindergarten school years and a kindergarten report card. I read the report card, which is sort of a fill in the blank type document. Here are some of the answers:

COOPERATION: She always wants things her way.

MANNERS: She will wait in line, but only for a short time. She gets impatient and takes what she wants, even if it is not her turn.

MUSIC: She sings very loudly and off key.

SHARING: She has a keen sense of what belongs to her and she will not allow others to take her things.

STRUCTURE: She has no sense of structure. She does what she pleases, in the way she wants to do it.

VOCABULARY: She has a vocabulary that is very advanced for her age. She asks questions and talks constantly.

I looked at my report card, and that is when I realized, HEY! I am that same person--only now I have my Master's in English and give grades such as A, B. C, D, F. (Still doing those silly smilies too). Good thing I know how to get what I want and always want things my way--that is why I have my Master's and she was only a kindergarten teacher. (Still can't sing for ****).

I'm Not! I'm not even the same person I was 10 years ago. Think about it. We grow, learn from our mistakes and mellow out with age every day. I'm older smarter and wiser than I was 10 years ago. Actually, I think I am a better person now than I use to be.
I've gone through Child Birth, Raising a child, Living with the fear of that child being taken from me when he was stationed overseas, and dealt with the death of both my parents. All with in the past 30 years. Yeah, I'm not the same person I was then. I'm BETTER!

It is very difficult for anyone to be the same person as he was a child. The environment teaches you so many things for which you cannot be immune. I am definitely sure that I am not the same person as I was a child.
But all men are born with nothing on their self, with bare body and that is the one they are going to take when they are buried. Same person, is it not?

I was an intelligent, happy, and personable child, full of hope for the future. Life has a way of squishing that sort of thing and the result is quite the opposite.

How do we know we were the same person we were yesterday. Your question seems to presuppose that we have a static 'self' that somehow lies behind our mind and body 'controlling' it.

Many Philosophers have doubted this (eg Hume) If there is no 'ghost in the machine' then question of the style 'who are we', 'are we the same as', etc become quite meaningless.

Can't speak for anybody else, but I can say that essentially, I am that same person. Sure, older, wiser, been around more, seen more, but haven't really allowed myself to be corrupted by the world at large. "To mine own self, I have been true", to paraphrase Shakespeare.
