I have three children. My first two had no complications at birth and are now 10 and 12 years old, however I'm learning all sorts of new things with my 3 week old who is still in the NICU at the hospital.

It is possible that your baby may not liked to be tickled when you caress his/her skin or doesn't like to feel "confined" by the feeling of your hand on his/her skin... but it is also possible that your baby may not feel well and the holding may soothe her/him yet the touching part makes them startle and that may cause them to be in pain. This is something I never knew but learned quickly. Looking at my son you would never be able to tell that he had an intestinal problem as he looked very healthy. It's the small subtle signs that lead the doctors in the NICU to his diagnosis of NEC. Thank God they knew the signs because I sure didn't!!!

Have your child checked out with his/her doctor to make sure there is nothing going on. Always better to be safe than sorry.

my friend's 3 week old loves being held but if you touch her with your free hand she stiffens up and cry's. My two year old son hates being held unless he's tired or sick.

You wouldn't be giving it static electric charges when you touch it, by any chance?
