He is sitting for Primary Sch Leaving Examination. He is not keen in studies & dreams to be a singer.I never give up on encouraging & motivating him even on very little achievement he got.He will listen on the moment I talk to him but tends to forget it soon. This has been going on very long-I have never give-up.My worry now is - what if he cannot make it to the secondary school and be in alignment with the normal school progress. He is the eldest of my 3 sons.I do not have very high expectation but at least he must be of good model to the younger siblings.I do not mind him wanting to be a singer if he has the gifting, but I also want him to be an 'educated-singer' as education is important. Please help me ease my mind. His exam is only 2 months from now. What dissapoints me is also the negative remarks I got from his school teacher.School teachers are not developing children but condemns them - only smart & hardworking children get place in teachers hearts. The weak ones feel like failures.

Well! that is a tough one! you have to understand that he is a teenager. its good that you encourage him in his achievements! You say he wants to be a singer. well if he is good at it you could send him to a musical high school if there are some in america. i am sure they can provide the correct education. but if you talk to him and then he "tends" to forget then mayby it is time to be a little strick. you can forbay him any extra activities or going out with friends until he gets his head together and starts studying. i am afraid there is no other choise. i know it is harsh but as being a teenager myself and i also want to continue the arts. i want to be an actress. i also had bad grades. as soon as my father forbaded me to do acting if i did not get better grades i pulled my head together and became a better student! try that mayby it could help!GOOD LUCK!

If he really wants to be a singer, trying homeschooling him and letting him sing.

Once he can spend all day singing, just shove some books under his nose and he won't mind doing three hours of work a day.

Slamming facts in to his face while his heart lies in singing isn't going to be effective, anyway. He might remember a bit, but it's really not going to help him.

He'll be an excellent role model to his brothers if he shows a lot of dedication to his singing, won't he? Taking the reins, choosing his own path, making something of himself? Might be good for him.

Well, at two months to the finals.... I could say you're a bit too late.I mean, have you just noticed or what? I guess you could make him repeat the class just to show him its important he gets good grades and moves on to high school. About him being a good model to the siblings... I dunno. Have you thought about the possibility that you could be pressuring him so much at the last minute? That can also lower his grades.

The decision to fight should really come from him. I know how you feel, because I'm also one of those who really didn't care about my studies- but tried. Your son seems to lack motivation. Is it because of physical or psychological reasons? If so, please try to identify the root of your son's problem, then you can take it from there. God bless!
