First, study the ways of the company in advance. Try to feel what they are about.

In an interview it's just not about the things you say. The important thing is to have a conversation with the person who is interviewing you. Be emphatic, try to form a real connection with the interviewer. I would recommend using your body language to say the things you want to say to the interviewer. What your body says goes straight in to the subconsciousness of the interviewer. In there he/she will decide does he/she like you or not. All the facts can already be found from the CV.

If you want to be a policeman, be calm and strong.
In customer service, be smiling and warm.
In a creative job, be passionate and full of good energy

For an employment interview, I would describe myself using short anecdotes (stories) that display the values that I have and that would be attractive towards the position the employer is considering me for employment.
This is not only perceived to be more believable by people than mere statements of "I am honest". They are verifiable from previous employers not afraid to discuss your previous employment, and they are sometimes asked for in employment interview formats since it is a difficult format to lie in.

i would say:
"if i walk out of this office today, and you havent given me the job, you will regret it for the rest of your life, but not at first, because first i will get a job at your rival company, then i will work my way to the top. One day in the future when i own that company, i will buy this one and, i will remember you and give you a job as a teaboy".

Of course i would not really say that(but it would sort of be good to be that arrogant.
Reality is i would just become an actor and become whatever the person wants me to be for the job!

I was out of work years ago and had to go on one of these back to work schemes, they gave us a video to watch, interview techniques,
It was so help full, as i am shy at interviews i tend to come over cocky coz i cover the shyness with confidence and would appear troublesome? yes i saw myself on the video it taught me alot!!
they covered 5 different types of people. i'm not a great believer in these do good scheme things, but this was helpfull.

I had the germ of an idea in mind when I clicked on the Answer button, but Gene has summed it up pretty well.

I'll bet that potential employers will be impressed with him.

Take his advice seriously.

I am realible, hard working and totally trustworthy. I believe I have the skills you require and your company will give me the career I am looking for. I really feel I could spend the rest of my working life here, increasing the profits so we all benefit.

Total twaddle but that's what they want to hear.

In ways that would help the company you're applying at. Explain traits and skills you have that would help their mission. Talk up your strengths...your work ethic...your education...your experience...your goals...the ways you could help.

Too many talk about mundane..."I like tennis and DVDs." Well, no kidding, who doesn't? The employer wants to know about the things in you that will propel the company to success. See?

The employer is like, "my nephew likes DVDs, horses and fast cars, too, but shucks, you don't see him working here, do you?"
