I am not into country music;however, do you know the man's life story? He hit rock bottom, went to prison, came out, made it big in music, rode the roller coaster of life, brought others into music like Merl Haggard, and did his own thing his way. Its what ordinary citizens dream of, to come out of the wallows and make your own life, answering to no one but the Man Upstairs.

To me, Johnny Cash was not an American icon and he did not hold so much sway over the american way of thinking Where did you get that idea? and what way of thinking are you talking about? He couldn't sing. Just because they made a movie about him, don't mean anything.
