I've notice that not too many people notice the good deeds of America. People only notice when we are picking on some poor terrorist for killing innocent women and children. I was stationed in Europe for three years and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I never advise people to visit europe. Our ancestors left europe for a reason and it's very clear to me.

Im american, but my parents are from France. And they are actually from Paris. I have noticed that a lot of Americans tend to travel thinking that everyone speaks english, so they don't bother trying to speak the native language when they are there. They have a sense of superiority when travelling, and I think that gives me, an American a bad wrap when I go traveling. Granted, when I travel, which i've done a lot of, I always learn the basic words to get around, like please, thank you, you're welcome hello, goodbye. I think that if more americans did that when they are in France or Spain or China, that people will be a bit more receptive to them. I know what you're saying. Plus, Paris isn't France. I love the S. of France. Carcassonne is a beautiful part of the country as well as Lyon.. mmmm Food!!! :)

Thank you for posting this. You are very correct.
A bientot! Ciao!

When I went to Paris, my mom and I were in the city. Well,I know a little bit of French. We took the Ait France shuttle bus from CDG to the Arc de Triomph. When we were buying the tickets my mom was speaking English because she doesn't know any French. The man was very rude, so then I was speaking French to him, and he got so friendly toward us. So, from what I have seen, the Parisians think Americans are rich, fat, lazy, selfish and think that we all agree with Bush. My mother and I met this really sweet lady who lives outside of Paris. She was so sweet. She helped us with our luggage and told us where we needed to go. Not all French are bad people. I only thought that the Parisians were a little rude, but not all of them are! I auctually met a lady who was from the same town I was and I know what High school she went to, and I know where her mother lives, and she lives in France with her French husband. So, yes, some Parisians are a little rude, but not all French people are!

In my experience, the French love Americans. An American can't walk down the road in northwestern France without being invited over for supper by the locals. Some of the most gracious (and thankful) people in the world.

Ah! A fellow European! Excellent. Americans have some strange ideas about the rest of the world because most of them never leave the USA. It's understandable - it's a very big country - but the missunderstandings about Europe and Europeans is astonishing.

I don't think French people dislike Americans...they just dislike anyone who is not French tis all. You're an arrogant country...and looking at your history rightly so.....But y'all did get your panties in a bunch when we came in there and saved your asses. And being from a very strong military power for centuries I think you had a reason to get your noses in the air.

If Europe had to come bail our asses out in our own country I think we as Americans would be a little snooty too now.

some of the reasons americans dont like the french is because the french are very direct, to the point of being rude. instead of saying, "i think you might be mistaken," a french person will say, "you're wrong."
americans have their language set up on the basis of manners and civility. the french have their language set up on efficiency and directness. it is this basic difference in language types that leads to a lot of heat between the people.

also, americans don't really respect the frensh because we had to save them twice from the germans in 20 years. we see the french as the scrawny nerdy kid that mouths off to bullies, then get the snot kicked out of himm, then runs to us for protection. frankly, we're annoyed with you.

ya, and you french men have helped this country build up to what it is now, the revolutionary war. but that's all i not know about france. i know france have a black labor, where minimum wage is high, and firms do not want to have more then what is needed, i think about 7, since having 8 employees mean that a firm needs to give them a retirement pension and insurance.

My Uncle visited France when he was in the Army stationed in Germany (he went all sorts of places in Europe when not on Duty), he said most people in France were rude to him.

i'm french - i live in france - and i love americans... america is a beautiful country! (i actually used to live in america and those years were the best of my life!) but it's true that many people are jealous of america's richness in france and they all think that americans are fat! and when you ask them what they think of the americans, they'll tell you they're stupid because they refer to george bush automatically! and they think that americans are dangerous because in the usa, you're allowed to carry a gun! i obviously don't agree with them! the french are a bit too proud of their country! despite all of that, they still use american products like coca cola or levis, etc....
