Infectious disease registry may sound like a good idea, but when you think about the possible uses for this information what do you come up with? Can you find a reasonable need for the government to have this information? Who would access the information? What would they do with it? The possible answers are very frightening! Bad idea! There are no practical applications for it.

Well right now under the current law all HIV cases are reported along with treatment plans but the patients name is not released. I do not think releasing the patients name, or sensitive information would help with the current problem, and I see no reason to violate HIPPA or to rewrite the HIPPA policy.

Well...not sure. If they had a list, then people would know who was HIV positive and who wasn't (assuming it would be publicized), which is a good thing. However, things could get out of hand, and in the end, I don't believe anyone would benefit, so it's a difficult choice.

It's a good idea...but people will misuse the information and make it an intolerable situation...It does Contravene privacy laws, at least in Canada. but the information is too powerful to be recorded in a single place.

Where did you here about that. I keep my thumb on the news and haven't heard anything about it. It would also be against laws protecting privacy.
