Spell correctly on your college app essays...

They really love people who play sports and volunteer a lot.
Leadership plays a major role. They like to see that you were active and that you took charge or held some responsibility in some way (ie. as President or Treasurer, etc.) They also like people who play instruments, especially ones that are dedicated (like playing piano for 10 years, etc.)

But of course, none of those matter if you don't have high GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Some colleges also require SAT2 tests too. (Check with the colleges you plan to apply to and take them in May/June, right when you finish the class junior year.)

When you write your essays, write how you normally do. Don't try to use big words that you never use because you don't want to sounds stupid using it wrong. Other than that, make sure you quadruple read your essays and pass them to at least 3 people for opinions and criticism. Never hurts to ask more than that, but i wouldn't suggest anything less.

Keep a list of awards you got within your high school years because they come in handy in the colelge app process.

In general, colleges look for what makes you special. Most colleges get millions of apps from people around the country. Tell them what makes YOU special.

Good luck on your endeavors! Best wishes during your college app process, and try not to stress too much when acceptance/rejection letters come home.

(On a side note, these are also the things most scholarships ask for. Think of finding and doing all this as hitting two birds with one stone.)

one thing is community service. this includes a lot of things. there are clubs that do a lot of this, join them. Also, keep your grades up, dont slack off. Colleges generally want a 2.5 gpa, sometimes will accept lower, but to be safe aim high. If you are artsy do drama club and chorus, things like that. make sure to take as much math as you can handle. if you dont have an algebra2 credit, they put you in a prerequisite class. Do as well as you can. Do your best in anything and everything you do. And dont feel pressured to know your major when you sign up apply, that doesnt matter at first, most advisors actually say its best to keep your options open. I hope that helped.

Your GPA, the classes you have taken, and your ACT/SAT scores. Maybe some special school(like expensive private or Ivy leage school) look at extra curricular activities, but unless you are an athlete there is not much else for them to look at. Think of what you want to do, then check out school possibilities, followed by researching the schools applicantion process. Simple.

uh ... it's hard to say, considering we don't really know where you're trying to get in. i do think it's a good idea to have a well balanced combo of a high GPA, academic, and sports involvement on your app. not required, but it looks good. decent standardized test scores don't hurt one bit, and once you get your applications, those essays do mean a lot. you'll also need really good recommendations from instructors or employers ... it really helps if they're stellar.

the other thing, it might be helpful to get the inside scoop on where you'd like to apply so you can tailor your applications to each university/college you want to attend.

no doubt, you'll get more detailed advice on this, but i wanted to get my two cents in.

best of luck.

The thing that impresses colleges the most is PROPER SPELLING AND GRAMMAR. You should capitalize "I", use "too" instead of "to" in this case, and lay off on the multiple exclamation points.

Then learn to spell "haven't", "especially", and "extra-curricular".

Now you're ready to fill out your college application! Good luck!

You'd better learn how to spell. That's the first thing before you fill out any applications and these universities throw them in the trash and don't bother with you.

All around. Not one thing. But have something other than good grades to brag about. DO SOME VOLUNTEER work. Thats almost a shoe in.
