I am using windows XP, zone alram 6.5.731.
whenevre i try to download something from the net, connection hangs up after downloading for few minutes.
If I shut down the zone alram, downloading works fine.
Can anyone please suggest what's the issue?

If you have any other firewalls (Windows, McAfee, Norton) shut them all down. The configurations you need to set under the programs tab in Zonealarm are as follows:

The programs that need to have 2 green checks under ACCESS and two red x's under SERVER are as follows:

-Gen Host Process for Win 32 Services
-Your IM/messenger program
-You internet browser (Firefox, IE, etc)

The programs that I recommend you have all 4 green checks for BOTH ACCESS AND SERVER are as follows:

-Email program (outlook express, etc) - not yahoo./hotmail/msn.
-Any online games you play -FPS, D&D, etc

--All other programs you can put 4 red x's under ACCESS AND SERVER.

Set all your other securities to medium. Sometimes putting it on high prevents you from accessing sites or dlding.

Go into the zone alarm control center and check settings .
I had some headaches also,in windows media fixed the problem
in the settings.

Also consider jetico ,also free ,uses less disk, and no headaches.
(I used zone alarm for 2 years before changing)

maybe your zonealarm is blocking the downloading. just disable it everytime you download something or else just uninstall it completely. who needs zonealarm when windows XP already has its own built-in firewall?
