My toilet overflowed today, and the water soaked the carpet on the 2nd floor of my home, as well as the hardwood on the ground floor and the carpet in the basement.

The insurance company wants to just dry the carpet and replace the underpadding. I am concerned that this wont be good enough, and i'll have mould problems later, and I am very allergic to mould. Is there any way to insist that they replace the carpet?

Hmm, I can see your concern but just think about when you have your carpets cleaned, they get pretty wet so as long as they replace the pad you should be OK. But ask them what they will do if mold develops, will they then replace everything and pay your medical bills and lost work wages?

By the way, I can't believe that one toilet overflowing got all the way into the basement. That's crazy.

If all else fails, foot the bill for new carpet yourself
