Actually, many animals display homosexual behavior. It is especially well documented in animals that mate for pleasure, and not just while in season, such as some types of dophins, and bonobos, a close relative of the chimpanzee. There are also animals that will choose to have sex with a member of their own sex, even when members of the opposite sex are readily available.

I used to work for our local county government, and there was some hoopla, because the library system ordered a book about homosexuality in animals, and every single copy was checked out by the same person, who then kept them and paid for them, rather than letting other people check the book out and read it. The books were re-ordered, and that person's library card was suspended, so someone else came in and did the same thing. Here's a link to the book, which is available at online bookstores, including Amazon.com:

The fact that homosexual behavior is documented all across the animal kingdom, and especially well documented in some animals that mate for pleasure just reinforces my view that it's a natural phenomenon in all animals, including humans.

Yes, from an evolutionary standpoint there is good reason for an individual to pass his or her genes along in the form of offspring. But that doesn't mean that all members of a given species have that need.

Now that science has mapped the human genome, we are beginning to discover which genes control what characteristics in the individual. I strongly suspect that science will discover that homosexuality is genetic, just like hair color, or the shape of your nose.

The need to reproduce is universal, from Amoebas to humans. Animals do have homosexual tendencies, but they don't put labels on it, they just do what nature tells them.

I recall something in the news a few months back about something, a gene or an imbalance of something, possibly causing homesexuality. Which is a scary thought in a way, if it's true, people will be able to play Hitler, essentially
"planting/growing" their own ideal child. Do you remember making a conscious choice as to which sex you like? I know I didn't. I'm just what a lot of women would call a typical guy, cause, well, I like women!

I hate to tell you this Honey, but you are seriously wrong!
All animals have homosexual behaviors. Dogs, Cats, Cows, Birds etc...
I can tell that you have never lived on a farm. When Female cows come into heat, they ride or jump on top of other female cows like they are matting. Most female animals will do this. It is just another indicator to any Bull nearby that they are receptive to matting.
I have had ducks and chickens that were homosexual. 7 years ago, I had a peacock that tried to mate with a rooster.

You need to look into this subject more!

There is actually quite a body of evidence in academic literature which documents incidences not only of male animals who "hump" other males on occassion, but ones who consisently prefer males to females.
