A few days ago I saw an old Bugs Bunny cartoon in which he dropped an anvil from a balcony sending Yosimitie Sam into the stage below. however, when the anvil fell on him and hit, that part was skipped and Sam was climbing out of the hole. And I'm not even going to get into them taking out the black housekepper in the Tom and Jerry cartoons. WHAT ARE THEY THING???? DO YOU THINK ITS WRONG WHEN NETWORKS EDIT CLASSIC CARTOONS SO NO ONE GETS THEY'RE POOR LITTLE FEELINGS HURT? AND WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OUR KIDS BY DOING THIS?

another sad example of the pussification of america.those classic cartoons have been watched by multiple generations but now its just too much apparently.these are the same people who 50yrs ago tried to banish superman for fear that kids would leap to their deaths trying to fly.at least 50 yrs ago they had enough sense to keep that from happening. that sense is gone.
looney toons used to be a saturday morning tradition on the networks,I don't even know where they are shown now, some superstation I guess.
I think this editing/shielding is totally lost on kids growing up that have no access to the originals.I've heard of but haven't saw the reworked ones.do they even show roadrunner?how could they if its all about violence and failure (in their minds),we can't have kids knowing that such things even exist.
I've never dropped an anvil on anyone, used excessive amounts of tnt,or tried to fly with an acme batwing.
each generation successively underestimates their children's intelligence while building higher and higher fences around them.
when I have children I will have the complete box sets of original classics and we will watch them on saturday mornings to bowls of cereal.

The kids do not realize what they are missing.

It is sad that they ruin these cartoons. Kids and adults do not get to the see the original intent and humor in these cartoons. They also miss getting a true window into the past.

One example of this is the 3 stooges. There are lots of very bad things in their shows. Lots of Non-PC references and people. But they are funny and the do show an interesting window on the past.

I guess you will need to get the original cartoons on DVD to ensure you kids the real cartoons, not a water downed version.

As I finish this I am thinking - Isn't this partly what the book 1984 was about? Revising things so it fits whatever the current group-think is? How far we have come...

STOP SHOUTING!

Why are you watching cartoons? Don't you know they rot your brains?

Children should be taught about reality and how the media is acquiescing to fundamental Christian ideals (and taught manners as well) at home from parents who are involved in their child's life. With a good foundation at home you don't have to worry that a kid is going to think tossing an anvil on their next door neighbor will garner Yosemite Sam's Phoenix-like rise from the ashes. But don't expect the media or the schools to teach these things.

Teach your children well, for I have none with whom I can annoy you.

Note to Rufus: This isn't the meaning of being Politically Correct. PC is about referring to a person according to their culture, ie., African American, Italian American etc... Being PC is being incredibly misused and it doesn't help a thing in this world. It's simply about being respectful and identifying people in a manner that doesn't put anyone down. This question is not a PC issue.

there are cartoons that have been completely banned because of their derogatory content. and why not ban them? or edit them? i think what they're trying to teach children is called tact. you know.. most intelligent, classy, civilized people have it. it's a nice concept.

as for the anvil thing.. *shrug* there's a whole lotta stupid kids these days. i think most grown people can agree on that one. although.. i'm not even sure why they would bother editing it out. almost all new cartoons are equally violent, if not more so.

Yeah... these cartoons have been around for over 4 decades.

They should leave them alone and concentrate on the REAL problem like Paris Hilton and Sweet 16 shows that give kids these days the wrong ideas.

I agree - it is a shame that classic cartoons are now edited for such things. You might be interested to know that the iTunes music store now has a free video podcast for vintage cartoons in their original state. Check it out... it doesn't have all of them, just the ones whose copyrights have expired.
