Im now 16, and its disgusting. I've tried EVERYTHING. i try getting on acrylic nails, and i just bite those off also. And bad tasting nail polish doesnt work either. eeee any other advice? :) thanks

Okay, take a deep breath...
IMAGINE:
if you don't stop, something bad will happen, set a goal for yourself... then reward your self when its done---outfit, IPOD, music, games, books, etc.
Be strong!

This works.
Good luck, bad habits die hard!
(Sorry about your dad :( )
^_^

first i put some colourless iodine on mine, got to be colourless so as not to leave stains..

secondly cut off the dead or hardened skin next to the bitten part. that will take away some of the itch to bite.

wear a nice ring and bracelet, that will make you feel more glamourous/ feminine( maybe some macho bracelet for the guys).. and so inspire you to stop the nail biting.

keep busy or play a game like brick game , freecell, sudoku which will take up your concentration or keep your hands occupied. and , that would really take your mind off those nails

keep mind from thinking upsetting things. and keep away from scary movies

think of those hand amputees in war torn or improverished
countries

and finally put soap under the nail as soon as it grows even a fraction.. that would really help..

cut photos of all the glamourous hand with gorgeous nails and pin around the room and finally...

now this part is very important.! Have constantly in your mind a final picture of how your new wonderful grown nails would look.on your hand

all these from my own experience.

I had the same bad habit, and here's how I broke it!

The first thing you have to do is be willing to break the habit and be commited to it.

And once you've done that, PAINT YOUR NAILS! ...Sounds funny, right? Wrong. If you keep your nails painted, you won't want to bite them for 2 reasons - 1. It's unhealthy. and 2. Nail polish tastes BAD!

It's torture, but it works!

Instead of trying nail polish, try nail polish remover. Look on the bottle for something that says it contains a bittering agent (usually Bitrex or something like that). Put a little on your fingers even if you aren't wearing nail polish. It doesn't wash off easily, and it tastes wretched. It might help.

Wish I could help. I have been an avoid nail bitter life long. The only thing that I ever found that helped was painting them nicely so I wouldnt want to ruin it by biting them.
Needless to say that only worked a month or so.

you recognize what you need to do? supply up learning, bypass out and locate a chemist (or drug save...I dunno what they could call it on your united states of america), and locate a nail polish there especially for nail biting. once you position it on, it is sparkling and un-noticable. yet once you bypass to bite your nails...BAM! The style is poor. It tastes like homestead paint mixed with banana. VERY DISGUSTING. you could merely style it even if, no longer smell it, so do not situation about the heady scent making you ill. That helps a lot with nail biting. Use it until eventually you supply up completly, trust me, it somewhat works. it is non poisonous, with suggestions from the way.

A lot of people has that bad habit.
I used to bite my nails and I stopped it when I was a teenager because a teacher of mine told me that every dirty thing in our hands goes to nails. It was so awful the way she described it to me that I never did it again and now I have the most beautiful nails

Well... a couple things...

One, I know you said bad tasting nail polish didn't work, but have you tried putting hot sauce in your nail polish? IN the actual bottle? Not a lot, but enough to piss your mouth off when you go to bite.

Two, when you go to bite or when you feel the urge, think of your hands as if they belong to a sweaty fat man that just took a huge **** and didn't wash his hands. LOL. Yeah, I dunno..

take a bar of soap and scrape your nails across it so that you accumulate a fair amount of soap under your nails. You wont continue biting your nails unless perhaps you wash your hands.
