i personally LOVE diamonds. when a man gives a woman a diamond, it shows her that he is willing to spend a ton of money on something frivilous just because he loves her. alo, diamonds are rare and beautiful. i suppose women want to feel like they're rare and beautiful to. i know a lot of people are going to disagree with me but hey, to each his/her own.

I don't really like Diamonds. For my engagment isn't even going to be the traditional diamond.
I love sapphires and will only accept it if engagement/wedding or normal wear. Which I don't wear jewls often so, I don't catagorize myself as the typical Women you describe.
However, diamonds can mean something to one person as a sport hobbie can mean to a man.

A diamond ring for engagement is no more waste than a man's spending on his hobbies (sometimes)

I dont care for them , but there not really a waste , woman can say the same thing about investing money in a car for show or techy crap that big screen tv ect

Hey, i believe it depends on the girl, because i don't care about those kind of stuff, i don't need money from him, no present, no rose, no ring, or food from him... just as long as he loves me and hes there for me, then thats all i need.
