snl has, since its debut been on a constant ebb and flow.people were asking this same question during the 2nd season. creator Lorne Michaels has even said (half jokingly)its been going downhill since the 1st year.
there is a serious humor drought going on now ,it seems every decade or so they get the right combo of players, writers, and current events to satirize to make it work, like the stars aligning.
I predict the 07 season to have some promise, you can quote me on that.

I knew things were getting out of control when they started stealing jokes from "The State," in the episode that Dane Cooke hosted.

The real question should be "How can SNL manage to NOT be constantly hilarious when they have Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone?"

I don't think SNL will ever be what it 1nce was.....used to love the show, now its like they try to hard....makes it hard to watch so i don't.Kinda like watching George Bush trying to speak English.....actually he's a whole lot funnier to watch then current SNL cast.

it has been on about 30 years. Believe me, it has gone down, and gotten better repeatedly in that time.

In the 80s, Al Frankin had a great routine called "let's put SNL to sleep."

I think it's about to get worse. Tina Fey who is also the head write for the show is leaving to do a prime time show. Rachel Dratch is leaving too! They are two of my favorites :(

There are no more power actors who can carry the show. Hopefully, they'll find some more power actors like Farley and things will pick up again. Here's hoping...

Probably not. It's like beating a dead horse now and just too painful to watch anymore.

Heck ... it all went bad so long ago, I don't even consider watching it for any reason. Mind of Mencia, so much better.
