Are you talking about a serger overlock machine?
If so, you start by putting all the control knobs for a three, four, or five thread, at 0.
then you start adjusting to according to what fabric or material you are using. Test it.
You can also make it look like it binds by serging two pieces together and then unfolding it and making it one flat piece. Gentley pull it flat..
