Is that the name of the story? It was about a Hungarian man and his daughter whose name was Kate (I think). Once he buys her her own white horse. It described their lifestyle, rounding up wild horses, her traditional costumes etc. I don't know if that is the book's name or not, can you confirm?

Hi,
Good question. I used to love this book when I was a kid. It is called The Good Master and is by Kate Seredy. It won the Newbery Medal in 1936.
Kate Seredy draws from her Hungarian upbringing in this story of Jancsi and his spirited cousin Kate, who comes from the city of Budapest to spend the summer with Jancsi's family in the country. Jansci's wise and loving parents train and mold Kate into a more caring and wise child. Learning to help plants grow, to care for animals and pitch in to help with the family work all give Kate a new outlook on life. The family has many good times together including trips to the fair and the circus; traditional Hungarian Easter and Christmas celebrations; a horse roundup and more. The Singing Tree is the sequel in which the family lives through WWI, you might also enjoy that book as well.

I also enjoyed her other book "The white stag"

The Good Master by Kate Seredy is pretty old, but as a Newberry Medal winner it's probably still about.

Yes, that's The Good Master by Kate Seredy. I haven't read it, it may be a kids book but it's really long.
